Congratulations to Fleur Scott, Reed Learning’s latest Candidate of the Quarter. High flier Fleur receives the accolade after completing the challenging CIPD Advanced Diploma 9 months ahead of the two years normally needed to complete the programme. Fleur was able to use her experience and apply practical examples to her assessments.
Clearly a very committed candidate, we think Fleur is a worthy recipient of our Candidate of the Quarter Award which recognises the hard work and personal dedication of individuals who go the extra mile to achieve qualification success. Not only did the flexibility of the programme allow Fleur to complete the Level 7 Diploma in record breaking time, but she also managed to gain excellent marks for the two exam modules, receiving Merits for both.
All this was achieved whilst working as Head of People Operations for Sodexo at Ascot Racecourse where she was responsible for a fulltime team of 60 as well as the 3,500 casual workers needed for world famous Royal Ascot and other major racing events throughout the year.
“Fleur is an excellent candidate whose approach to learning was very planned and focused,” says Fleur’s personal adviser Louise Hill who recommended her for the award. “She studied for her qualification whilst doing a challenging operational role and was always really organised. Her submissions were of a very high standard, all business focused, based on her organisation and underpinned by theory and research from literature. Fleur has got to be one of our quickest ever completions of an Advanced Diploma, her final module came in for marking only 15 months after starting the qualification.”
Although Fleur was heavily involved in an HR operational role at Ascot, her real passion lies in Learning and Development and she opted to study for an Advanced Diploma with Reed Learning. As we are the only centre to offer all of the learning and development optional modules as part of the Diploma, Fleur was able to choose those most relevant to her career aspirations.
“I wanted to study for the Advanced Diploma to give me extra credibility in my role and to hone my skills,” Fleur explains. “I already had a CIPD Level 5 in Human Resource Management and I was really keen to broaden that out with a Level 7 in Learning and Development and I’ve found the qualification has done that”.
“I chose the online programme because it meant I could work at my own pace. Having done CIPD and other qualifications in the past through distance learning I have found that it really suited my learning style. It’s given me much more flexibility to fit my studies around my work and progress through the programme quickly which is what I wanted.”
Reed Learning was recommended to Fleur by other colleagues in Sodexo and she rates her learning experience with the company as ‘very positive’.
“Louise, my tutor has always been there for support whether it’s having a quick catch up on the phone to act as a sounding board or for a longer more structured conversation. I’ve always received really quick feedback about my assignments and the exam workshops were very helpful. Everyone has been really supportive throughout my learning journey,” Fleur adds.
Fleur began her career as a training coordinator for Merlin Entertainment before joining Debenhams as an L&D officer. She was appointed as a regional development manager with Specsavers and moved to Sodexo in 2015 initially taking on training and regional service excellence management roles before being promoted to Head of People Operations at Ascot.
Post studying she joined Flow, an eLearning hospitality training company in a new position as a Key Project Manager, combining her love of Learning and Development with project management and delivery which she enjoys. We wish her all the best in her next move.
