CIPD stands for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. It is the professional body for HR and people development and has more than 160,000 members worldwide. CIPD qualifications are highly respected and globally recognised. They demonstrate the level of professional competence in HR or L&D that has been achieved and lead to different levels of CIPD membership.
The CIPD offers qualifications at Foundation, Associate and Advanced level. Our team is happy to discuss which CIPD level is right for you and answer any questions you have relating to your role, educational background and HR or L&D experience. As a guide:
Level 3 CIPD (or Foundation) is an entry point qualification and is ideal if you have little HR or L&D experience. You may just be starting your career or thinking about a move from your current role into HR/L&D.
Level 5 CIPD (or Associate), is set at an undergraduate standard and is intended for those with some HR or L&D knowledge and experience. You could be looking to develop your skills and knowledge to move into a more senior role.
Level 7 CIPD (or Advanced), is a postgraduate qualification and is reserved for HR and L&D professionals with more experience looking to develop their strategic understanding and knowledge.
Just look at the job adverts! Most employers need applicants to be CIPD qualified. The HR job market is competitive, so a CIPD qualification is worth having. While the Level 3 Foundation Certificate provides a good grounding in all the HR basics, the Associate and Advanced Diplomas offer the opportunity to specialise in aspects of HR and L&D.
Once you have gained your CIPD Associate or Advanced Diploma, you are officially allowed to use the designation Assoc CIPD after your name. This applies to your email signature, CV, mail address, and more. Achieving your CIPD Foundation Certificate leads to Foundation Membership.
HR roles for which a CIPD qualification is required pay up to £4,400 (16%) more than HR roles which do not require a CIPD qualification. For admin level roles, having a CIPD qualification can boost your earning potential by up to £5,600. In other words, our CIPD qualifications are well worth the money.
