A survey of professionals taking part in the Reed Women in Technology Mentoring Programme found that nearly three quarters were over 18 years of age before considering a career in the sector, with 80% never thinking they’d end up working in tech. Additionally, more than 72% say they had no technology role models growing up.

In a survey of more than 500 UK parents of girls aged between five and 18 years old conducted by Reed, 65% of parents surveyed feel that more role models representative of their children would be a huge encouragement for their daughters to focus on a career in technology. However, more than half (52%) felt that it was likely that their daughter would have a career in technology, while a majority (51%) said their daughters expressed a keen interest in technology both at home and in education.

With these statistics in mind, more needs to be done to encourage women into a career in technology. Watch our speakers Louise McCarthy, Managing Director Female Entrepreneurs, Evrensel Capital Partners, Kevin Dainty, Client Relationship Manager, Reed – Technology (creator of Reed’s Women in Technology Mentoring Programme), Danika Patel, Community Manager, Guider, and Liz Cochlin, Head of IT PMO and Governance, Admiral Financial Services, as they dive into the realm of mentoring and how it can proactively help women to develop and thrive.

Our panellists discussed:

  • The value of mentoring

  • How it can encourage talent attraction and retention within an organisation

  • Gender inclusivity

  • How to approach creating a mentoring scheme within an organisation

  • What impact mentoring can have on women in the workplace.

Live viewers also had the chance to put their questions to the panellists in an interactive Q&A during the last 15 minutes of the event.
